This article appeared recently in the City Tribune – The article was written by Kevin Markham. Some years ago Kevin Markham drove around Ireland in a camper van, playing and reviewing every 18 hole golf course for a book entitled ‘Hooked’. The article makes interesting reading as Kevin lists what he thinks are the best Galway golf courses.
I am both honoured and delighted to be the Lady Captain of Bearna Golf Club for the coming year. I intend to continue the good work of our previous Lady Captains and promise to represent the ladies of this club to the best of my ability. I will certainly make it my business to ‘fly the flag’ at every opportunity.
I will promote Bearna Golf Club whenever I possibly can and would urge you to do likewise, be it encouraging new members or inviting friends/colleagues to play our course.
The priority for us all this year is to retain existing members, attract new ones and encourage visitors to play and also to revitalize the social aspect of the club. In this regard I would ask all of you to partake in any social occasions and fun competitions that we intend having during the year. These occasions are a simple way of getting to know our fellow members and integrating new members.
There is a busy calendar of events scheduled for the year ahead and I would urge you to participate in our own club events and also through interclub representation.
I look forward to meeting you on and off the golf course and heres to a great golfing season for 2014

Our very own Connacht Rules Official Barbara O’ Keeffe recently sat the R&A rules exam at St. Andrews, Scotland and not only passed with distinction but secured joint first place overall.
A number of rules officials from all over the British Isles sat the exam which is recognised throughout the R&As jurisdiction as reflective of the delegates understanding of the rules, and for Barbara to come out on top was a fabulous achievement.
Congratulations and well done Barbara…. We are all very proud of you here in Bearna Golf Club.
