Bearna Golf Course NBCRI Pink Event took place on Thursday the 24th April and was a phenomenal success. We were blessed with a beautiful fine day to showcase our wonderful course and also raise vital funds for a very worthy charity. Lady Captain Deirdre was delighted to present the NBCRI with €2,000 which we raised between the golf, raffle & donations. So thank you all the Bearna members and guests who played and participated by dressing in ‘Pink’ both during the golf and afterwards at the presentation of prizes that evening. A special word of thanks to the National Breast Cancer Research Institute who kindly sponsored the golf prizes and to everyone who donated prizes for the raffle and best dressed competition.
We had a fantastic turnout with 41 teams playing on the day. Our beautiful Connemara golf club was bathed in sunshine throughout the day and was awash with every shade of pink from dawn till dus. John Collins produced the shot of the day when his tee shot on the 18th produced a memorable hole in one. Well done Johnny!!
The presentation of prizes in the clubhouse was very well attended that evening. We were honoured to have Anna O Coinne, Chairperson NBCRI, Mairin Clancy NBCRI and Professor Michael J Kerin, Research Director NBCRI and Professor of Surgery NUI Galway in attendance. Anna O Coinne accepted the proceeds of our fundraiser from Lady Captain Deirdre and Professor Kerin thanked everyone who participated and made the fundraising effort of this Galway golf event such a success. He spoke about the research programme at the NBCRI and the new developments over the past few years. He highlighted the fact that research has an important role in the management of breast cancer and he thanked all fundraisers without whose help and support none of their research would be possible.
